Bong! Try out any instrument for free at Kaufman

Kaufman Center’s Lucy Moses School (129 W. 67th St., NYC), New York’s largest community arts school, opens its doors to the public on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, for its second annual Discovery Day. At this FREE event, children ages four and up can try out a wide range of instruments under the guidance of Lucy Moses School’s dedicated and experienced faculty members.

This is a great opportunity for beginners as well as young music students thinking about starting a second instrument to see what it’s like to play the violin, guitar, cello, flute, clarinet, recorder, saxophone, piano, oboe, bassoon and trumpet. In addition to exploring musical instruments, kids ages three to seven and their caregivers can participate in a sample 20-minute Dalcroze Eurhythmics class in which they’ll explore musical concepts through active rhythm games, creative movement, songs and stories.

Throughout the evening, families can step into Kaufman Center’s Merkin Concert Hall to enjoy short performances by talented young Lucy Moses School students. At 6:30 pm, Kaufman Center’s celebrated teen new music ensemble Face the Music will perform Steve Reich’s Tehillim and Gregor Huebner’s Cuban Impressionsoutside on W. 67th Street as part of the city-wide Make Music New York festival. Snacks will be available.

Space is limited: To guarantee a spot in a Dalcroze sample class, please call 212 501 3360.
