If you have always wanted to go to “Burning Man” like us, we just might have a close substitute for you.  The Maker Faire at the New York Hall of Science, celebrates art, science, DIY culture and creativity whose mission is to “inspire, inform, connect and entertain thousands of Makers and aspiring Makers of all ages.” Created six years ago by the publishers of MAKE magazine, the fair is described as “carnival sideshow meets science fair, with robots, engineers, rockets, computer geekery and body paint.” This year the innovative Faire will also include over 500 crafts people as well as a crafts pavilion, 450-plus hands-on exhibits, science demos, art-technology and a village devoted to 3-D printing. Some highlight include Deconstruction Zone where you kids can actually take apart and break radios, VCRs, DVDs, etc to see the insides and how they work, Lockpick Village where you kids can play with locks and tools, The Anywhere Organ, an interactive musical sculpture where every note is controlled by a computer and robots everywhere. A must-see event, this is a fantastic way for your kids to explore and learn by both watching and testing out incredible scientific and artistic projects.

  1. Traci- you will totally love it! Usually they give us tickets to give away for the event- but not this year. I’m bummed but it’s totally worth the cost!

    Have a great time.

  2. How long have they been doing Maker Faire for? It looks like a super fun event for the whole family. Wish we had seen this earlier so we could have let our tenants know about the submission deadline. We will hopefully be able to attend!

  3. I can’t wait to bring my kids to this. It caught my interest because it’s the “world’s largest DIY festival,” and we’re into visiting any and all “world’s largests.” But even if it wasn’t, we would still want to go experience this!
