Half Share from Local Roots

Though we live in the city, we actually have easy access to local farm goods- from eggs, bread and beef to honey.  One way to receive food directly from a farm is to join a Community Supported Agriculture or a CSA. In Brooklyn, Local Roots is a particularly wide-reaching one with pick-up locations in 5 neighborhoods where they offer share options of vegetables, fruit, beef, duck, grains/beans, eggs, and bread from local farms within 250 miles from NYC.

They are now signing up members for their 2012 summer season with a few more pick up locations and more share options.

New Shares:
They have a newly added milk share from Ronnybrook Dairy Farm and a Brooklyn share, featuring artisanal purveyors such as Brooklyn Soda Works, Liddabit Sweets, Ovenly, and Mike’s Hot Honey.

What they offer:
They offer members 12 week programs in three seasons, summer, fall, and winter as opposed to the traditional 24 weeks, and partners with local farmers to offer more diverse food options such as vegetable, fruit, meat, cheese, egg, milk, bread, grain, and an artisanal Brooklyn share.
Local Roots NYC continues to host cooking classes and supper clubs to show the versatility of seasonal produce and inspire New Yorkers to cook at home more frequently.

Locations:

  • Boerum Hill
  • Carroll Gardens
  • Greenpoint,
  • Williamsburg
  • East Williamsburg

*Local Roots NYC is also expanding its Workplace CSA program by offering office pick up.

How to sign up:
Membership applications are due May 21st, 2012. To sign up for the summer CSA season: http://localrootsnyc.org/csa/products
