The String Orchestra of Brooklyn is performing in Fort Greene Park on Saturday. Ahhh...music in the park.

Charles has quite a lineup of music events for you this weekend. Here is what is on his list this weekend: “We are curious about the Sandbox Music shows and might make a stop there. We are definitely headed to The String Orchestra of Brooklyn on Saturday and, of course, Mil’s Trills at Littlefield on Sunday.” Don’t forget El Museo del Barrio’s annual block party which is a total blast of dance, music and crafts.

Friday July 20th

11:00 am: Children’s Concert in American Playground
Town Square and the Greenpoint YMCA have joined forces to organize a free concert in one of Brooklyn’s local parks. Block the city sounds and streets with some good music and greenery. American Playground, Milton St (between Manhattan Ave and Franklin St) Brooklyn , NY

11:00 am: Sandbox Music
Accompany live brass instrument music with your own percussion rhythms under the guidance of professional musicians from one of New York City’s premier brass quintets, Central Park Brass.

5:30 pm: Friday Family Jam Series at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum
Enjoy the Rumba Tap ensemble who mix traditional tap with Afro-Cuban jazz and folkloric music.

6:00 pm: Harlem Dances: Uptown Dance Academy
Come see local dance companies demonstrate their moves and maybe learn a move or two.  This week it’s the Uptown Dance Academy.

Saturday July 21st

3:00 pm: Bargemusic Presents: “Music in Motion”
Since 1977, Bargemusic has presented chamber music in an unlikely and startlingly beautiful venue—a floating barge at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Both established and emerging musicians perform at Bargemusic on a small stage with the dramatic backdrop of the East River and lower Manhattan skyline.  Neighborhood Family Concerts are a one hour performance, including a Q & A session with the musicians.

4:00 pm: Super Sábado! Block Party
Join El Museo del Barrio’s annual block party, on 104th Street between Fifth and Madison Avenues, for a late afternoon/early evening of kid-friendly fun. There will be poetry, hip-hop, break dancing, salsa, hula hoops, art and more!

6:00 pm: String Orchestra of Brooklyn Concert
What better way to enjoy classical music than while relaxing outdoors on a summer night? Spend the evening picnicking with the family at Monument Plaza and listening to the String Orchestra of Brooklyn perform Beethoven’s Fifth.

8:00 pm: The Danny Repole Swing Band at Kingsboro Community College
The Danny Repole Swing Band will have you dancing in the aisles in no time at their wildly popular Summertime Swing Concert, featuring such treasured favorites as “Night and Day,” “Tangerine,” and “Cherry Pink.”

Sunday July 22nd

10:00 am: Salsa Baby Brunch with Jose Conde
Kids can brunch with Latin flair while listening to music from Baby Loves Salsa (led by Jose Conde) and indulging in the special kid’s menu at Ideya.

2:00 pm: Harlem Meer Performance Festival
Enjoy live lakeside music in the Park’s beautiful northern end at the Central Park Conservancy’s weekly Harlem Meer Performance Festival concert.  This week is Charansalsa (Salsa).

3:00 pm: Mil’s Trills 2nd Annual Summer Bash
Amelia Robinson introduces families to a host of exotic instruments (think the Australian Didgeridoo, West African Gyil, Middle Eastern Oud and the Indian Tabla) to Brooklyn for a performance filled with a host of musical guests.
