If you are 35 plus years old, you might have been lucky enough to see the original 1979 Muppet Movie in theaters (like me). I will never forget the Muppets big screen debut, and seeing it again 33 years later in Prospect Park is not an opportunity I want to miss. This Saturday, join hundreds on a nostalgic trip on the Muppet train as you watch and sing along with tribute band Loser’s Lounge (another favorite of mine). Slip on those boots and a kerchief for square dancing this Saturday at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan for two hours of sweat stomping fun. Those are our picks!

Accompany live brass instrument music with your own percussion rhythms under the guidance of professional musicians from one of New York City’s premier brass quintets, Central Park Brass.

3:00 pm: Bargemusic Presents: “Music in Motion”
Since 1977, Bargemusic has presented chamber music in an unlikely and startlingly beautiful venue—a floating barge at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Both established and emerging musicians perform at Bargemusic on a small stage with the dramatic backdrop of the East River and lower Manhattan skyline.  Neighborhood Family Concerts are a one hour performance, including a Q & A session with the musicians.

5:00 pm: Hot Saturday Night Family Dance Jam
If you’re family’s in need of some summer groovin’, head to the Children’s Museum of Manhattan every other Saturday evening in July and August for two hours of music- and motion-driven fun. 4:00 pm: Summerstage Queens Family Day
Randolph Matthews will do more than delight families with his soul and African music: he’ll help teach a vocal percussion workshop where families will use recycled materials, storytelling and Matthews’ rhythms to create music of their own. There’s also magician LuckyBob, who can juggle hats, balance objects on his face and even read minds, all while keeping kids laughing. Families can then amp up their best dance moves at a free hip hop class in the park and try them out at the Little Club Heads dance party.
Springfield Park, 184th St (at 146th Rd)

(Many thanks to TONY KidsProspect Heights Patch, NY Metro Parents, and Mommy Poppins for listing info!)
