Friday June 29th

7:00 pm: Transmusica
Discover music from around the globe at Transmusica, the first concert in a new music series from the Young People’s Chorus of New York City, where families can listen to international choirs performing music indigenous to countries like Bali, Indonesia and Sweden.

7:00 pm: Sunset Singing Circle
Don’t be shy! Raise your voice and join singer/guitarist Terre Roche as the sun sets over the Hudson River for enchanting evenings of folk songs, rounds and chants. Novice and experienced singers of all ages are welcome.

Saturday June 30th

10:00 am: International African Arts Festival
Each day of this festival features traditional fair activities including stilt walkers, puppet shows, and children’s rides, but there are also performances by Destiny Africa Children’s Choir, made up of orphaned and at-risk Ugandan children.  Also on Sunday.

1:30 pm: 2nd Annual Kiddies Caribbean Fiesta
The daylong festivities in honor of Caribbean Heritage Month offers families a soca-style exercise dance party (noon–1pm); a culinary workshop with a chef from St. Lucia, tastings included (2:20–3pm; registration required by June 21 at 718-735-4400, ext 321); Rhythm of Steel, a steel pan drum workshop (3:30–4:30pm, ages 5 and up); and, as the day’s finale, a Jump-Up parade in which kids and their parents wind their way through the museum singing songs and showing off their festive carnival wear.

3:00 pm: Bargemusic Presents: “Music in Motion”
Since 1977, Bargemusic has presented chamber music in an unlikely and startlingly beautiful venue—a floating barge at the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. Both established and emerging musicians perform at Bargemusic on a small stage with the dramatic backdrop of the East River and lower Manhattan skyline.  Neighborhood Family Concerts are a one hour performance, including a Q & A session with the musicians.

3:00 pm: Rhythm and Sounds
Utilizing percussion instruments from all over the world, John Berger of Urban Stages will show how percussion is used in theatre and in other mediums to tell stories, create moods, and enhance movement.

4:00 pm: Summerstage Kids’ Bronx Family Day
Little Club Heads gets families dancing at Bronx Family Day.  Then check out David Graham and Tobin Renwick of The Red Trouser Show and try out unicycle riding.

7:00 pm: RCTA Sunset Concert Series: Jazz
Calling all blankets, picnic baskets, and candles! The Riverside Clay Tennis Association is once again hosting its series of sunset concerts on the tennis lawn overlooking the Hudson River at 97th Street.  This week it’s Dave Glasser, a prominent jazz saxophonist.
