We took both our children (3 years and 1 year) to Dr. Ehrlich.  We were testing for allergies for hay fever, nuts (3 year old) and dairy, soy, casein, nuts (1 year old). Dr. Ehrlich met with them in his paper-stacked office that is full of hidden toys and gadgets for the kids (glowing eggs, a see-through stapler). He listens very carefully and respectfully to both parents and children. He is extremely approachable and personable and funny too. After the nurse did the testing (she made it easy with some techniques she had adopted), he came and got us at the appointed time and discussed the results and did an exam of each of the kids. He obviously loves children and enjoys being a doctor.  The office is extremely busy as he and Dr. Teitel are well-respected. Plus, I believe Dr. Ehrlich appears on the morning news shows sometimes so that gives him more clients. He also teaches other residents 1 day a week.  Dr. Teitel seemed to have mainly adult patients. I didn’t learn anything about Rubin. The office is fine with a few kids books, but bring your own toys as there are none. The office is a typical Manhattan one, cramped rooms, waiting room and a little scrappy- but it didn’t bother me.

Dr. Bassett is a well known allergist. He came highly recommended to me. I wanted him to see my kids though and he does not see children so they recommended his partner, Dr. Khadavi, who does.  I brought my 1 year old girl in to see if she had dairy allergies. He had his PA do a prick test after minimal consultation with me. So minimal that he never asked our family allergy history or much about our daughter’s medical history. When the test was done, he came in and told us that “yes, she was allergic to dairy” since his PA had looked at the tests. His only other sentence was: you need blood work done to determine if she has other allergies.  He didn’t explain more than that and I left befuddled. When I discussed this with our pediatrician he suggested that maybe we should see another allergist who would be more sensitive and attentive. I agreed!
