I just wanted to give a shout out about a recent workshop (free) that I attended at Park Slope Fitness Collective. Thanks to your wonderful and informative blog I attended a workshop for woman who are expecting and those who have had children and are having issues with pelvic pressure, painful sex, leaking while laughing/sneezing and pain while shifting positions. Without going into my own personal reasons (suffice to say I gave birth to 6lb 2oz and 6lb 10oz twin baby boys) I can honestly say that the information that I gained that night has helped me tremendously and it has led to significant improvements already, including a reduction in the separation of my stomach muscles (very common as a result of pregnancy but which I knew nothing about until Isa Hererra, the amazing physical therapist assessed me at the workshop). Isa was truly amazing and very generous with her information, she made all the woman feel relaxed and open to discuss their issues which is a pretty important quality when discussing a ’sensitive’ issue. I hope that this review goes some way to helping other Moms out there that might need a some encouragment by letting them know they’re not the only ones with these problems and there is very good help and support out there (esp in the form of Isa Hererra, who is sort of like a champion for the cause!)

Lara offers Physical care and training for women in postpartum and beyond. Her practice addresses many of the issues that arise in the weeks, months or years following childbirth.
Such as pelvic floor re-training, back pain, core strengthening. Using imagery breath and postural work to access specific muscle groups she incorporates this specific work into a holistic awareness of the body.
I took a Mommy and Baby Yoga Class with Lara which was lovely. She concentrated on visual metaphors and goals, ways to work the poses with our babies and educated us about yoga and post-partum yoga all while helping us do correct poses with a simple rythym to follow. I liked her calming style.
