Our favorite backpacks for school 2011
It’s that time of year again: back to school time! No matter what age your children are, they all love a special backpack to begin the year with. With so many choices, we searched for the cutest, eco-friendly and functional backpacks out there to help you choose.
Topkat Backpack ($40). Created by Milkdot, a New York-based company, this lead-free, BPA-free and PVC-free backpack comes in four fun colors (tangerine and chocolate, lime and chocolate, blue raspberry and chocolate and plum and chocolate) with a star for your superstar. This backpack has great storage with extra pockets, a water-repellant nylon, an ID tag and an insulated lunch tote.
Zoo Packs ($20). Gotta love the uber cute backpacks from Skip Hop. The Zoo series feature stylish and whimsical characters like a monkey, fox, elephant, and a frog. All of the bags are BPA-free and Phthalate-free and feature comfy padded straps, an insulated pouch for food as well as a mesh bottle pocket. The bag is 11.5″ high and ideal for kids from 3-5. As owners of the fox pack, my kids especially love the furry zipper pull- cute as a fox tail.
Kids Panda Cotton Backpack ($16.99) Designed by EcoGear, this lightweight backpack is PVC-free and made from all natural cotton materials with buttons and buckles made from sustainable wood. The pack contains two side pockets for bottles and the inside is roomy for heavy books. The bag is made with non-toxic dyes and is available in flamingo, grass, azure, and natural. I am a sucker for the lime green, but the washed-out style also makes the pink and blue nice soft choices.
Ecozoo Organic Backpack ($29.99) An adorable backpack for preschoolers that is made with a lightweight and washable organic cotton canvas. The backpack is made with non-toxic dyes and from sustainable wood and recycled plastic. The cute pack has padded shoulder straps and is available in panda, pig, elephant and puppy designs. We are wild over the Panda with the doey face and pop-up ears.
Embark Pet Pals Frog Rolling Backpack ($23). If you have to carry heavier books you may want to consider a rolling backpack like this one by Embark. This backpack has a polyester shell that can be easily wiped clean and an inner sack that is great for organizing. There is also a mesh pocket, padded shoulder strap, adjustable strap, front zip pocket and a removable hanging plush toy. A plush toy? Why not have a furry friend help you in traveling to and from school?
Lassig Kids Mini Backpack ($34). This stylish and functional backpack is an eco-friendly option that is free of PVC, AZO dyes, cadmium and nickel. We really love its organizational compartments that are perfect to store lots of books and a lower section that is ideal to store a freezer pack or lunch. The backpack is made of durable fabric, a chest-strap for weight distribution, zip pouch, a hook for keys and net side pocket. The backpack is available in deer/purple, sporty ufo/royal blue, and flower/berry rose.
