Since 1996 Boing Boing has served pregnant moms in the Slope. Find the perfect nursing bra, sling & breast pump & make life easier. Sling classes at store!  She has a nursing circle every Wednesday at 11 am.  Babywearing workshops every Tue 4-6 pm, $10.00. They demo carriers, and you can walk out with one that day.

I know there has been some grumbling about this store in yahoo user groups (all to do with the salespeople)- I think this place is a terrific asset. They have a variety of nursing supplies, bottles, nursing bras and slings.  Sometimes I have had a saleswoman or two that wasn’t really knowledgeable, but, as of late, that seems to have been remedied and I would highly recommend this neighborhood store. (Plus they have great maternity tees.)

The owner, Margo, is the friendliest Aussie and has great taste. You can enjoy a chat with her while you nurse or shop. She has an art table for play and some toys available for waiting toddlers. Though the shop is small, it is chock full of colorful, hip accessories, clothes and toys. She carries a little bit of everything you might need: carriers, slings, clothes, shoes, toys, blankets, strollers, bikes.
-Karen

My favorite shop for kids things is a toss up between Acorn on Atlantic Ave- for all of their fantastic mobiles with fairies and butterflies- or Corduroy Kids on Vanderbilt Ave- they are so close and have wonderful items and a great staff. But if I had to choose one it would be Corduroy Kids since they are not as expensive as Acorn, and they have a fun selection of boys clothes (many eco-friendly lines) and the dresses for girls are amazing! Such funky fabrics and quirky cuts- I love looking at them even though I have 2 boys! They have toys, shoes, stroller items, books, furniture, blankets and more.
-Lena

When able to splurge on other people’s kids, Corduroy Kids, in Prospect Heights and Park Slope, offers such beautiful and unique gifts and clothing, and the owner is lovely.

This tiny store is across from NYU Methodist, so I always stop in on my way back from Birch’s doctor. I have never bought anything, but that is not to say I haven’t been tempted. They have spectacular sales and my sister and her children have been the benificiaries of one of them. (Some say they offer discount prices all year-round.)

Entertaining and useful new & used items for kids from inexpensive clothing in great condition to unique gifts including a wide selection of new and used books. Let your kids play while you shop!

Flying Squirrel is fun to poke around in. I can always find something in their resale area- especially a pair of shoes. The salespeople couldn’t be any friendlier. It is a great asset to Brooklyn- it is only 1 of 2 resale shops in the borough. They do sell new items and have quality ones at that.
-Karen

It has great gently used brand name clothes for infants to size 12.! The brandname clothes are great also. I have bought many gap jeans, clothes at great prices. They also have new designer original clothes and gifts and welcome children to play with the used toys as well. I love going there and finding some great deals and having fun at the same time.
-Debbie

I like Flying Squirell. They have a good collection of gently used clothes. I love their toy selections, too! It’s a place that you can take your tots and not feel overwhelmed.

Ola Baby
www.olababy.com
315 Court Street
718-422-1978
Baby clothes, nursing products, cribs, bedding, etc.

I just visited this store for the first time and fell in love. They have great design products, plus very fairly (if not some of the best) prices for toys and nursing supplies.  The clothes selection was nicely priced and, though a small section, the clothes were trendy and quality.  They also have a comfy couch for nursing and a great table and selection of clean toys for children to play with. The video player wasn’t there when I was, but I understand they show a “tasteful” selection of kid’s videos. The changing table was clean and the bathroom induldgently huge! The staff knew their stuff and couldn’t have been friendlier.

Pizzazzz Kidz

They generally have a good selection of hats/mittens, bibs and witty onesies, snowsuits, bathing suits etc. They don’t have a huge selection of clothes, but usually carry the more practical items.–
-Karen

This is a place I never walk out of empty-handed. They carry lots of breastfeeding paraphernalia, clothing, feeding supplies, strollers — any gear you can think of.
-Chris

Pizzazz Kids/Toys and Heights Kids are both well stocked local stores for anything kid related.

Still Hip

283 Grand Ave (btw. Lafayette and Greene)
Brooklyn, NY (Clinton Hill)
718-398-0008
Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 6pm
Sunday 11am – 6pm
At Still Hip shoppers will find a wide variety of children’s clothing, gear, shoes, books, and toys, as well as great deals on maternity clothes for mom’s to be. But aside from a commitment to provide local parents with affordable quality items and live up to to the adage: “waste not want not” Still Hip helps connect local families by hosting classes in a fresh, friendly, open, and inviting atmosphere. The fall lineup includes: Music for Aardvarks, Private Picassos art classes, Let’s Dance Brooklyn, Sign-a-Song, Musica Para Mi, Music Together, and RoboFun.

The store feels fresh and bright with richly painted chocolate and blue walls and large light-filled windows.  There are shelves and racks full of great finds of second-hand items identified with cleverly designed labels. You wouldn’t guess this is a second-hand shop. Everything feels considered and lovely. You can find shoes, hats, clothes, jackets, toys, books, crib bedding, strollers, slings, maternity and more. They have a play space where classes are held and when not thus occupied is a play space for children of shopping parents. I left Birch there while I looked around- and he couldn’t have been happier in the play space full of gleeful other toddlers banging away on drums and tapping on tambourines.
-Karen

It has to be Still Hip. I am very lucky in that I live only a few blocks from this gem, but it is well worth travelling to if you live further afield! They have a wonderful selection of used kids clothes (in great condition and great prices) as well as all the other things you might need for your baby/child. I have got a carrier, bouncy chair, diapers, books, toys and even ‘rented’ a car seat. Still Hip also has a space that they open up for baby groups which means that it is also a great place for socialising – especially during these cold winter months. Check out their website for classes and events they regularly hold as well. Phew, such a lot for a little store!

-Ruth

We are a huge fan of Still Hip! We live really close and love going there to trade in clothes for another size/season! And we love going there for playgroup, art class, music class and the owners are really nice!
-Deena

I love Still Hip. It’s so satisfying to comb through their racks and find just what you were looking for without having to pay retail for it. I also love taking the clothes that no longer fit my daughter and getting store credit. It feels like there’s this big bunch of kids stuff floating around, and you can just reach out and grab what you need to get rid of what you no longer need that someone else will get a lot of use out of. Haven’t checked out their classes yet, but it’s a great neighborhood resource.
-Kate

… can’t beat the deals on great stuff, and I love that I can have my kids play in there while I’m shopping without getting lost or into stuff. Love it!
-Bethany

another fan of Still Hip! Love going there to trade in clothes for another size/season! And we appreciate all that the owners do for the neighborhood!

It seems only fitting that store owner Emmi Haddock named her girlcentric store after her two daughters, Beatrix and Mathilda. The theme here: mixing superfeminine, glam pieces with more sporty items.
