Open House at Space No. 1

Do you have a child with a disability that would love to enroll in a movement class? Or go on a play date? Perhaps you are looking for some adult company with parents who can understand what you and your child are experiencing…..

Extreme Kids & Crew, a parent-run non profit, can help you make all those aspirations a reality.  Extreme Kids & Crew helps Brooklyn’s kids with disabilities, their families and friends by hosting a warm, supportive play space, classes and workshops.

They have some great new developments and offerings that can set you on a path to making great friendships and totally fun times!
New Partnership with Mark Morris Dance Center
Dance Fun-damentals:  Creative Movement for students with disabilities (AGES 11-17-ish). Probable ingredients: Live music, parent participation, gorgeous  Mark Morris studios!!
Details: Classes meet Saturdays 3-4pm June 23-August 11 8-weeks/$130. Register by calling The Center at 718-624-8400 or online at mmdg.org/school

Music at Space No. 1

Resources for Children with Special Needs
This FREE workshop will give you the full scoop on the changes happening in Special Ed. This evening will be full of valuable information for parents of all school age, special needs children. They have limited space, so let them know now if you would like to come, and they will reserve your spot.

Playgroups
They are organizing playgroups for kids 2-5, and 5-10. If you would like to participate, please let them know and they will put you in touch with a parent coordinator…They are also hatching a plan to start a parent-child meet-up for kids 11 and up who identify themselves as “different” or “special” due to Asperger’s, ADHD, or other neurological or sensory issues. For starters, the group’s theme is “Hello My Name Is Blank.” Kids are encouraged to bring whatever they are interested in  – laptops for minecraft, drawings, iPods for music, games, etc. Please contact Lucy if you would like to get involved.

  3. Thanks so much for writing about Extreme Kids & Crew! It’s a GREAT organization! My twins have benefited so much from having a space that is non-judgmental and understanding of their sensory issues. We always love playtime at Space #1, and my son really enjoys a music class he takes there.
