Brooklyn Junior's store- happiness abounds!

I am starting a new feature – called “Top of the Shop”. It’s a weekly look at a shop in Brooklyn and its 2 top selling items and then my favorite 2 top items. I hope that you see some new shops to visit or old shops that you might have forgotten about. Let me know what you think.

Our first “Top of the Shop” is an adorable little boutique in Clinton Hill called Brooklyn Junior. The owners turned an old waffle and chicken takeout (my God, what a combo!) into a small oasis for clothing, toys and playgroups.  Everything in this store has been touched by the husband and wife team that are artists: she, the clothes designer and he, a metal smith and the printer. You see their work from the hand-rolled confetti floor to the hand-forged metal displays.  But, what you notice the most is their vibrant clothing line. From graphic and witty onesies to snappy kimonos, they have created a sharp, minimal but cheery look .  They have pattern love too and I am in definite like.

First, here are their top 2 sellers in the store.

Brooklyn t-shirt

Brooklyn t-shirt is made with 100% SUPER SOFT cotton. They come in short and long sleeve, sizes 3-6 and 12 months and 2, 4 and 6 years old. $22.

Geemo toy

My son loved this Geemo toy- designed in Brooklyn by Cas Holman and manufactured in Japan.  The toys are magnetized and can attract and repel each other. They really were the coolest. Box of 5 is $40. ( I had read about them from the Toy Fair- where they were a smash hit.)

So, now for my 2 top choices in the store.

They will sell for $25 and be out late April

I LOVE LOVE this set that Nadia, co-founder made. It’s a brand new design for the summer. In fact, it’s so brand new that it was still pinned together as she hadn’t sewn it up yet. She had a slew of other new sets with patterns of mermaids, Pucci-like paisleys and daisies. This was my favorite, though I would have taken any of them!

Kutelight

These nightlights called Kutelights are made by a local artist from Williamsburg who uses recyclable metal and a fluorescent bulb to help illuminate your child’s room.  You can buy it in yellow, white, green or hot pink.  They are so sweet and comforting. From $120 to $150.

  1. Oh come on! There are lots of weird food combos out there: peanut butter and fluff, tomato and mayo sandwiches…you name it.

  2. chicken and waffles are a well known combination in many soul food restaurants. your reference reads not so nicely.
