It’s looking like the month of May is kicking off with super cool events. First up, we’re calling all truck lovers — the Touch-A-Truck Festival at PS 295 is taking place on Saturday, and, if it’s anything like last year, it’ll be a blast. Trust me on this. There is a reason to love Spring time in our awesome borough. One word: festivals! In fact, there are several Spring Festivals taking place from Red Hook to The Old Stone House Spring Fling Festival to the Court Street Brooklyn Festival. Score! Sunday is Cinco de Mayo and time to celebrate. Big time! Head to Littlefield for the Super Sonic Kindie Music Festival or head into the city for the Cinco de Mayo Parade. Get ready to explore Mexican heritage with the celebration of Mexican Independence Day! Katie and Emily from “Life is Made with Katie & Emily” will teach you and your little one how to make a felt and fabric crown by constructing prince and princess crowns from felt and fabric and embellishing them with jewels, flowers, ribbons and anything else you can think of. Animal Haven’s Caring Kids Program (LITTLE ITALY)
Where are our animal lovers? Or parents of animal-loving children? Dr. Daina Taimina, mathematical artist, author, and mother of two, will present “Crackers, Oranges, and Pringles” – a creative, hands-on exploration of surfaces with different curvature. If your child loves anything about trucks and cars and vehicles in general, then this is where you’ll want to be! Trucks, vans, buses, and large vehicles of every description will be available for children to sit in, climb on, marvel at, and generally have their way with. There are over 25 vehicles scheduled to take part, along with their drivers and operators, who will be on hand to explain how these automobiles work and what purpose they serve in the community. Ground Floor Gallery is The Slopes’ newest art destination! My son and I had the pleasure of seeing this show and we thought it was glorious! It’s a show filled with love and laughter and lessons learned. Based on the award-winning book, Piggy Nation follows Sammy Hamhock, a little pig excited to be on vacation following his Dad to work on Piggy Patrol, issuing tickets for piggy behavior. You’ve seen how your kids react to bubbles.
