Although it seems like our mini-heat-wave will be over soon, it’s left a lot of parents asking when the water will be turned on at the local parks. I am happy to report that the water fountains at Greene Playground (Near PS 11 on Greene Ave between Waverly and Washington in Clinton Hill) and Edmonds Playground – aka Camel Park (on Dekalb Ave between Carlton and Adelphi in Fort Greene) are both on for thirsty kids and parents alike to get some much needed refreshment. Notably NOT on is the water fountain in the small playground in the corner of Fort Greene Park near the Dekalb avenue and Washington Park entrance. I called 311 today to ask them about it – and they told me they would look into it (they even sent me an email confirmation about my call!)
While on the phone with 311 I also inquired about the sprinklers in the city parks. According to them, sprinklers are on from 10am – dusk once the weather reaches above 80 degrees for three consecutive days between Memorial Day and Labor Day (but not before, no matter the temperature). This is a little different than what the Fort Greene Park Conservancy is reporting on their Facebook Fan page. According to them, “Sprinklers are turned on above 80 degrees but in Spring it takes some time. Ballparks are first, major parks then large parks like ours.” One can only hope that it happens sooner than later! Until then – stay cool!
Are the water fountains on at your local playground? Let us know!
