A couple of weeks ago we reported on the terrible news that playground equipment at the newly opened Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1 was burning children. The solution the developers came up with was to post “danger” signs and ask that parents wait for surrounding trees to get leaves to shelter the fiery metal domes. Definitely not enough, in my opinion. Does anyone know if that has changed and they are doing something more?
Let’s hope that they are more safety-conscious with the sandbox village and playground at Pier 6. The playground is slated to open this spring which is to include water play, swings and slides. A reader from Brooklyn Heights Blog sent in the above photo of the newly constructed sand village.
Pier 6 will have an entrance off of Atlantic Avenue and , besides the playground and sand village, it will have a dog run, a pedestrian promenade, three sand volleyball courts, a concession with a outdoor roof deck, small lawns and planted areas. A water taxi dock is being constructed on the southern edge of Pier 6 and will accommodate future water taxi service to Governors Island.
