Want a horse in Brooklyn? It’s totally possible

Kensington Stables

Every girl and boy I know wants a horse. And why not, they’re awesome! But here in Brooklyn it’s pretty much impossible to have one, plus I’m pretty sure it’s against the law. Fear not fellow parents! There is Kensington Stables.

Right near Prospect Park, at 51 Caton Place, there is a place where they let you and your family (kids must be 6 and up) ride horses through the park. And even if you are a nervous nelly like me they will kindly find you the perfect companion! They gave me an older, very gentle horse while my husband, who enjoys riding, got a more playful one. We had a great time riding the trails and enjoying Prospect Park. It was fun and very relaxing. And, the best part, you don’t have to clean up after the horse or keep it in your apartment!

And if you are looking for an exciting way to celebrate a birthday, especially for the younger kids, they have gentle ponies for a pony party! Or you can even head to the stables and they will give your child a safe, fun pony ride around the block for $3 (approx. 4 minutes).

Apparently, they also offer riding lessons for the avid horse enthusiast.
