Following up on Summer fun – Sprinklers and Concerts!

Camel Park sprinkler fans

This weekend marks the official beginning to Summer, so I wanted to follow up on two summer activities that I previously wrote about – sprinklers and children’s concerts in the park.

Fort Greene and Clinton Hill locals who made it to the playground this week with their little ones might have seen that the sprinklers are on!  Previously I had been told by 311 that they wouldn’t be on until we had 3 consecutive days over 80 degrees – after Memorial day.  I think parents and kids alike were breathing sighs of relief to see them in action on Tuesday and Wednesday.  I’ve heard reports that the sprinklers in Underwood Playground (on Lafayette between Waverly and Washington), the small playground in Fort Greene Park (on the DeKalb Avenue side) as well as in Edmonds Playground (aka Camel Park – on DeKalb between Carlton and Adelphi) have all been turned on.  Time to get splashing!

I also did a write up about the Music in the Grove Children’s Concert series that will be taking place in Fort Greene Park this summer.  Well, the schedule is almost 100% set in place now, with only two dates TBA.  Here’s what we have to look forward to:

Wed Jun 23, 2010 – Audra Rox

Wed Jun 30, 2010 – TBA

Wed Jul 7, 2010 – Astrograss

Wed Jul 14, 2010 – Suzi Shelton

Wed Jul 21, 2010 – TBA

Wed Jul 28, 2010 – Deedle Deedle Dees

Wed Aug 4, 2010 – Bubble do Beatles

Wed Aug 11, 2010 – King Pajama

The concerts are on Wednesday mornings from 10-11am in the Grove, which is the area south of the Monument at the top of the park.  Mark your calenders!  And check the Fort Greene Park Conservancy website for more information on this concert series, and other great events!
