JFP photographs you in your home, doing what you do. No props, awkward poses, extra lighting…just you; making lunch, changing diapers, doing whatever you normally do. When you’re comfortable, then the photos show that. And the result? Photographs that reveal the most poignant, candid moments of your family’s life- right now, but remembered for forever
When I first saw JFP’s portfolio, I knew I was looking at something special and new. Each family shoot feels different. There isn’t any formula- in fact, it’s just the opposite. The work is nonformulaic- breezy in style, yet thoughtful in look. Details, feelings and portraiture are all given equal weight. Nothing is spared: not the morning walk to school, the mom impossibly but successfully juggling baby, phone and cooking, and not even the dropped shoe on the patterned rug. It’s all documented to create a portrait of your life.
How do they get photos like this? They ask the parents to show them what their unique life looks like. If you take the kids for a bike ride, then they do that with you, if you love making peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, they will be there to photograph that process, too. This is their approach for all of the photo sessions they do, be it maternity, engagement, newborn, infancy, early childhood, or grandparents.
Though JFP’s founder, Jeff Fried, only started the business two years ago, his portfolio shows a sophisticated eye. It might be because of his earlier transient life crisscrossing the United States while photographing people, or his experience of immersing himself in the new environments of China and the Czech Republic. It also might be because he just gets it. And he gets it all just right.
