It’s September. School has started. There’s already talk of harvest festival and apple picking. But there are still peaches. Delicious, juicy peaches which, unlike apples, won’t be around for the rest of the year.
So now’s your chance, people. Pick some up this weekend. Some orchards may even have another week or two of peach picking. (We enjoyed picking peaches at our favorite spot just last weekend.) Try these peachy recipes. And savor the last tastes of late summer sweetness.
Roasted Tomatoes and Peach
This is a new take on my classic roasted tomatoes. It’s delicious tossed with pasta, piled on top of parmesan polenta or dolloped on top of fresh ricotta spread on toasted bread.
Perfected Peach Cobbler
It’s going to be a looooong time before you’ll be able to enjoy this kind of summer delight again. Make it this weekend. Eat it slowly.
Sour Cream Peach Pie
If you don’t have a taste for cobbler, then maybe some pie? This is killer and worth the effort, if you have it to give.
Grilled Basil Honey Peaches (with Orange Honey Ricotta Sauce)
A simple preparation with a sophisticated taste. You can even skip the ricotta sauce and enjoy with scoop of plain vanilla ice cream. Yum!
Apricot, Peach & Basil Puree
A fun way to share peaches with baby. No baby in your house? Okay. Then a fun way to dress up your yogurt or enjoy a smoothie. So. Delicious.
And, if you were inspired by last week’s post, you can always can your peaches, following this simple how-to, so that you don’t have to wait until next summer to taste their goodness.
