Monk's Trunk-interior
Three new childrens’ clothing resale shops have opened up in Brooklyn in the last month. Resale shops Flying Squirrel in Williamsburg and Still Hip in Clinton Hill have established themselves as places to go for good deals and neighborhood meetups, so it’s great that Brooklyn parents will have some other options too.
Lulu’s Consignment Shop called “Lulus Then & Now” recently opened in Park Slope. Knowing the taste of the owner, Brigitte, and the kindness and energy of her sister Amber who is helping to run it, I’m sure it will be well visited. Anyone been in? I’ve stopped by the new sweet resale boutique called “Livie & Boo” on Vanderbilt in Prospect Heights. They have a train table and art table to occupy your kids while you shop their quality stock. We picked up a fairly priced and well cared for jacket for my son. We even got 2 free bottles of bubbles from the owner. Our kids’ favorite part? Having “Boo” the stores’ mascot westie trounce around the store with them.
The newest resale shop to open is Monk’s Trunk in Prospect Lefferts Gardens. It is run by the husband and wife bloggers at Hawthorne Street (a blog about news and reno tips from Prospect Lefferts). They sell not only gently used clothing, but children’s books, toys, gear and even a few new items and gifts. They are based in a residential brownstone, so their hours are a bit unusual for the time being: Fridays and weekends only. On Fridays they open early (8:30 am). Items average about 75% off of retail and they carry sizes 0 to 6. The best news? They pick up throughout brownstone Brooklyn!
