If you are looking for someone to shoot a holiday photo, you still have plenty of time. Brooklyn photographer Niki Broyn knows all about shooting a family portrait: she’s not only been photographing her own four children for the last 15 years, but clients as well. She searches for the moment that reveals someone’s inner spark or that playful moment when she can capture their mood.
Niki’s photo gallery demonstrates her versatility in subject matter: maternity, babies, toddlers, holidays and headshots are just some of the categories you will find on her extensive site. You can tell that Niki has a particular fondness for photographing families. She uses crisp white backdrops to great effect, letting her subjects shine. Additionally, she uses digital effects to colorize a child’s shoe or evoke the mood of the subject. Whether the shoot is indoors or outdoors, toddlers dance, jump, and giggle while families nuzzle, kiss and hug. They are all comfortable in the moment of being themselves and together.
Niki encourages her subjects to be relaxed – if they are musical, athletic, reflective or funny, she showcases that in her images. Her teen shots are among my favorites. It’s not easy to get a teenager to let down their guard and show themselves in front of the camera. Niki is able to encourage these teens to smile, perform and gaze brazenly, all momentarily present for the perfect shot.
