If you have lived in NY for long enough, The Blue Man Group, was kindof something you grew up with. They have been performing in NYC for 20 years with their blue painted bodies and outrageous performances. Then the Group had kids and started The Blue Man Creativity Center Early Childhood Program. And, in good news for us in Brooklyn, they will be moving from their current location on Astor Place this fall to a new permanent home at 241 Water St in lower Manhattan. It’s one block south of Brooklyn Bridge, which means Brooklynite families can take a nice, crisp walk across the bridge to get to the school.
If you are looking for an unusual school experience, the The Blue School might be it. It’s a Lab School- which means “the inquiry and experiential based learning that helps realize the values and academic objectives requires adults and children to be open to experiment, to rediscover what collaboration means in our culture, and to work together with diverse points of view.” The new 33,168 square foot building was designed in 1991 and its 6 stories will house a library, labs, studios, cafeteria, auditorium and play space. Classes are for ages 2 through 5th Grade. They are accepting applications for 2s through 3rd Grade for the 2011-2012 academic year until December 15th, 2010. You can request an application here.
