Wiliamsburg and Greenpoint are getting a lot of new facilities for parents lately- could it be that the area might take over as the new Park Slope (in terms of amenities for families)?
A welcome addition to the new play spaces and gyms will be a store and event space called Caribou Baby. Though it has yet to open, it’s debut has garnered a lot of interest.
Adriane Stare, a certified babywearing instructor, educator and “aspiring expert on all things natural-parenting”, is the owner of the store who has not only an ambitious lineup of classes, but has undertaken a major renovation of a storefront to get it to match her vision. Caribou Baby will not only host a variety of classes and workshops, including a whole suite of birth education/newborn care/breastfeeding classes taught by Birthday Presence, it will also have a a 20 x 20 ft classroom with kitchen and access to a backyard garden and have a treatment room for pre and post-natal practitioners to work with clients privately.
In addition, the store will offer a wide selection of toys, natural products, baby carriers and cloth diapers, as well as informational classes to the community to learn how to use them. Along with doing baby carrier fittings at her store, she is doing them at the A Child Grows in Brooklyn Baby Expo this March.
The store will open in late February and you can follow along on the renovation progress on her blog.
