How can I be so late in posting something so rock-on cool for girls? Look at these gal rockers in this photo- don’t you love their all-out “go for it” energy?! I want to be one of them! I remember doing air-guitar endlessly as a founding member of the O-gos but Brooklyn girls nowadays don’t need air guitar when they have the real thing.
Beginning January 31st in Brooklyn, girls ages 8 through 18 (for all levels beginner, intermediate & advanced) can enroll in a 14-week long course to learn to play the electric guitar, drums or keyboard at Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girl’s Music Lab. The 14-week program includes free instrument-loan, encouraging students to practice at home between lessons. Beginning this year, the girls now also have the opportunity to apply to join an all-girl band! (Rock-on O-gos!). All female teachers and mentors create a supportive and nurturing experience for the girls.
Details: Tuition is determined on a need-based sliding scale. Classes begin January 31, 2011. Lessons are available for girls ages 8-18 with all levels of experience – even those with NO experience!
Drum Classes: Monday & Tuesday afternoons
Electric Guitar Classes: Wednesday & Thursday afternoons
Band Practice: Friday afternoons
