FREE TREES: One of the most popular ways of greening Brooklyn has been the FREE tree program that Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill and the FAB Alliance put on. This year they are giving away 300 dogwoods and cherry trees (smaller flowering trees, perfect for the spaces around our buildings) this Saturday, March 26, 10-noon (but come early because it is first come, first served ‘til they run out). Last year they ran out in 1 hour!
Details: Putnam Triangle: Fulton Street, Grand and Putnam Avenues. One per person. Made possible through partnership with the NY Restoration Project . Local supporters: St. Joseph’s College and Brook Landscape.
E-WASTE RECYCLING: Two opportunities to get rid of electronics (computers, anything which plugs into a computer, phones, TVs, VCRs, etc., but not appliances).
Details: Saturday, March 26 – 5th Avenue between Sterling Place and Douglass Street, 10 am – 4 pm
Friday, April 1 – At Pratt, Willoughby Avenue between Grand and Classon Avenues 2 pm -6 pm
Residential and small business e-waste welcome. For more information visit the project’s sponsor, Lower East Side Ecology Center.
COBBLE STONES: Green Fort Greene & Clinton Hill’s on-going “Take Back the Pavement” project (widening tree pits to our mature trees’ great relief) has left them with cobble stones available for your landscaping project. Priced to go.
