My 2.5 year old daughter Willow has caught the ballerina/princess bug early. It means: multiple visits to Angelina Ballerina at the theater, a tutu to be worn daily, shrieks when anyone resembling a ballerina crosses our path and long (very long) episodes of sitting on the floor watching my budding ballerina do some valiant attempts at a jump or pirouette.
In the end, it all counterbalances her older brother’s obsession with superheroes.
Since I’ve indulged him with those clingy polyester superhero duds, I figured I needed to play fair game and get her some tutus too.
Some of these we own, some she covets and others- are just fun to look at.
This is Willow’s daily tutu. It’s from The Children’s Place and is both long and opaque enough to pass as a skirt. It is well-made but with extended wearing some of the tulle has started to come off. It can be easily sewn on but for a price of $8.47 why bother? You can go out and buy a new one when it starts to look really shaggy.
I don’t know why I passed on this Tutu with Leggings when I was shopping at The Children’s Place. This has the “Black Swan” look: who wouldn’t want to look like Natalie Portman? These are a bargain at $7.47.
I love this one from Mud Pie because it has a nice cotton tank on top- and that’s not easy to find. Most tutu onesie tops are 100% polyester. The ribbon and tulle tutu on this cute number is pretty mellow with only two layers so there isn’t too much frou frou here. It’s $36.25 and goes from size 0 to 3T.
This is one dress we don’t have and I am totally crazy about. I love the electric blue bottom and the fun ice cream scoops with the giraffe cone. 2 scoops please! It’s $36.25 from Mud Pie.
We have this Motion Wear Leotard with tutu except ours has rhinestone studded sleeves. It’s sweet and less “tutu” than others, so it might not fulfill your girl’s totally tutu needs. $31.
Doesn’t this make you think of Doris Day? For that alone, I would buy this pompom tutu. This look is zany, pretty and a real show-stopper. $44 for the tutu and $20 for the leotard from Chasing Fireflies.
This happy yellow makes this Gerber Daisy Tutu shine. It’s $49 for the tutu alone from Chasing Fireflies and the yellow leotard is an additional $20. I think the price is worth it: it’s sunny feel might rub off on it’s wearer!
