Empowering Your Daughters Through Workshops

GirlTip #46: The Value of Saying “No”
Saying no can bring our worst demons out. What if they never ask again? What if they walk away? Consider this: if someone really wants you (in work & in life), they’ll find a way. If they’re just not that into you, you’re better off waiting for the right match who is. (Rachel Simmons)

Who doesn’t need this advice? Saying “no” is one of the hardest things most of us have to learn, let alone a tween girl.  That’s why bestselling author and girl expert Rachel Simmons co-founded The Girls Leadership Institute. She saw it as a chance to inspire girls to be true to themselves.

GLI’s runs parent/daughter workshops to help families coach girls to communicate with emotional intelligence, approach conflict as an opportunity for change and develop resilient responses to challenge.  Each workshop combines the tools of educational theater to engage each participant. And, what an amazing way to engage with your daughter and teach them to feel empowered? I sure wish I had had something like this when I was growing up.

I highly recommend reading Rachel ‘s blog too – there’s a wealth of thoughts and comments that are insightful. I read Rachel’s book The Curse of the Good Girl for a book award and was excited about her ideas and solutions. This is a special opportunity to benefit from her research and hands-on seminars. I hope she’s still doing this in 5 years so my daughter can participate.
