Got a mini Road Runner?

Do you have a mini athlete in your family? Or even just a kid who loves to run, jump and fly? The New York Road Runners, who puts on the NYC Marathon, wants Brooklyn kids to participate in their Youth Jamboree at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island.  Your kid doesn’t have to be a super jumper or runner- just be between the ages of 4 and 15 years.  The goal is to have friendly, fun competition in a variety of track and field events including runs, relays, long jump and shot put.

Although the NYRR Youth Jamborees are held 3-4 times a year, the spring one is the generally the largest, since everyone is so happy to be outdoors finally. And, we’re talking big. Over 2,000 NYC children will compete.  To emphasize that participation itself is valued, every child who enters will receive a free t-shirt and ribbon.

But there will be some very cool competition too- including the top 6 boys and top 6 girls in the 100 meter race (ages 7-8) will qualify for the June 11th Mayor’s Cup Finals at the Adidas Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium.

For a schedule of events, visit us at the NYRR Youth Jamboree event page.

How it works: Kids, aged 4-15 years, can choose up to two events each, which include: shot put, long jump, runs, and relays.
