Spring has finally sprung this week! That means you can break out all that outdoor paraphernalia that has been crowding out your one spacious closet in your apartment. Out come the bicycles, scooter, soccer balls, baseball mitts and spandex. Spandex?! Yes, Bike Month “officially” begins May 1st- and that means spandex.
This weekend Brooklyn will host the first-ever Bike Fest to usher in “Bike Month” as well as kick off the largest bicycling event in North America : the TD Bank Five Boro Bike Tour Presented by Eastern Mountain Sports. The Bike Tour is actually on Sunday so Saturday will be the pre-celebration.
This new, free, family-friendly event will have live entertainment, classes, bike repair, and an expo with demos and giveaways. There will be free bicycle and helmet safety checks, tune-ups and minor repairs (there will be a small charge for parts). Cyclists can also gear up for Bike Month and beyond with educational programming—everything from commuting tips to fix-a-flat instruction. Favorite clown Looney Louie will be there, as well as a magician and face painter and balloon sculptor.
as well as “how to adjust your bike for a comfortable ride”. There’s something for us casual bikers (I know I need the “how to use your gears” seminar) and more serious cyclists too- everything from commuting tips to fix-a-flat instruction.
