I was moving our car for alternate street parking last week when I found I had no place to move it to. Every parking space was taken. How annoying and incredibly inconvenient! With the thought of a $115 ticket, I grumpily started driving aimlessly which eventually took me to Williamsburg. Not a bad place to be when you have to kill an hour and a half.
Funny enough, I ended up across the street from a children’s store (imagine that) that I had never been in before. I parked and wandered in to a small but airy place with boxes of sale shoes piled in one corner (always a welcome sign) and an illuminated sign with the words “Smoochie Baby” written in poppy pink and green. So far, so good.
I soon discovered that this little store had the breadth of a small department store. There were socks, tights, ties, shoes, active wear and dressy wear all tucked neatly on shelves, rolled in baskets or hung on wall-length clothing racks. They have a tightly edited collection of shoes- hip versions of all the classic looks.
Clothes lines of tees and ties. You can find every kind of t-shirt shape (cap sleeve, double sleeve, tulip sleeve and no sleeve). And now you know where to get skinny black ties for that night out!
Looking for a summer hat? Smoochie Baby has a variety to choose from. I love the pink eyelet sunhat, blue straw fedora and newsboy cap.
They had 3 of my absolute favorite baby items here: Aden and Anais swaddle blankets (on top shelf), Baby Dee Dee sleep sacs (handging in red and brown) and the kutelight.
Here’s a closeup of the kutelight, since you can’t really see it on the shelf. I took this photo of two kutelights when I visited Brooklyn Junior in Clinton Hill. Sweet and soothing. Expensive at $100 each though.
Coincidental of my visit, I found out that Smoochie Baby is turning 2 this weekend and they are having a party to celebrate! This Saturday they will host a real birthday party with with cake and balloons plus a raffle for a $100 Smoochie Baby gift certificate. While you celebrate, you can check out a trunk show of K & J Sunprotective clothing. If you go at 2:30 pm, you can chat with dermatologist mom and creator of K & J too. Sale as well: take 10% off all regular priced clothing.
Details: Saturday, May 7th, 12- 7pm for birthday party
