When we had some hot days this May (that seems ages ago now)- I was running around in this jumper designed by Calypso for Target. It is a steal at $24.99 and it soooo comfortable. At all the baby expos this month, I’ve noticed that jumpers have “jumped” in popularity in children’s clothes too. I found some delicious ones and thought you might like to see them too. All of them are from Brooklyn designers except two. In particular, I included The Children’s Place as a less expensive alternative to the handmade clothes- and probably a good buy for sandbox and playground days where you don’t mind clothes getting mucked about.
Dressing Em
These “Play Day Suspender Pants” are from local designer Dressing Em. She had her line at the Brooklyn Baby Expo and I think everyone went a bit gaga for all the details in her clothing line. She does seamed pockets, brass buttons, snug loops that keep straps in play, colored stitched hems- it’s exquisite work, which is why her stuff is on the expensive side. Think of these suspender pants as “Annie Hall” circa 2000- playful, serious and a whole lot of cute.
Details: $80. You can buy them here. If you want a short version, she has that too!
Muny Shop
This Brooklyn designer came to our home and showed all her samples. She uses blocks to handprint the patterns and her clothes and linens are tailored, yet comfortable and playful in color. These light and comfortable overalls are adorable. They are ideal for summer playtime and vacations and come in 3 different cheerful stripes- turquoise, mauve and burgundy. Made from 100% cotton fabric, they are available in size 2yr, 3yr, 4yr.
Details: $42. Also available in turqoise. You can buy them here.
The Children’s Place
This denim jumper is super easy for sunny day play. I liked the cinched and smocked waistline for the decorative detail and cuffed legs. It’s prewashed so it’s soft and the shoulder straps have adjustable sliders for a good fit.
Details: $19.95 and you can buy it here.
The Children’s Place
This is the only jumper I chose that has a commercial icon on it. There is plenty out there that have princess and Disney stuff and I try to cut a wide swath away from that, but I did like this Hello Kitty one. It’s a kitty after all and pink: so for girls like mine, it satisfies their desire for PINK! and sparkle (there is glitter on the kitty face). Purrfect! (sorry, had to). It’s a combed cotton jersey so it’s soft and the elasticized waist and neckline mean is gives the wearer a snug fit.
Details: it’s $19.95 and you can buy it here.
Overall Baby
I just saw these linen robot shorts yesterday at the Queens Mamas Expo and they are funky and sweet. Overall Baby was at our Brooklyn Baby Expo and I think she sold out of her strawberry shortalls when she was there. That strawberry spring pattern is yummy and my favorite though the butterflies come in at a close second. All the jumpers are pre-washed and shrunk to fit. If you buy the infant overalls there are metal snaps along the leg openings which allow for easy diaper access. For growing kids, the straps can be lengthened or shortened. Sizes go from 0-4 years. I do wish she would also make them for older kids!
Details: $35 and you can buy them here.
One of my favorite go-to online stores is Polarn O. Pyret. I mainly shop their sales as prices can be high. P.O.P are having a Memorial Day Sale from now until May 30th so this is the time to buy from them. I love this engineer jumper which is a dress that goes mid-thigh. It has an adjustable buckle for size changes and is 100% cotton. You can buy it for baby or child sizes. If you want to do the matchy matchy thing, they also sell identical shorts for a boy. Two engineers in the family!
