You have a NYC kid, right? And that means your kid has access to some of the most amazing art institutions in the entire country. As parents, we have a dizzying range of classes that give our kids an intimate look into the arts that they wouldn’t get in say….Topeka. “We’re not in Kansas anymore, Toto”- and take full advantage of that!
One of the most popular theatre programs in NYC is the StageCoach Theatre Arts School in Brooklyn. StageCoach’s Saturday classes out of P.S. 58 in Carroll Gardens are highly sought after and always have a large wait list. Because of the demand, StageCoach started a summer camp, which means they still have space for you and me (the late arrivals to the party).
Though the summer camp is fairly new, StageCoach originated in London in 1988 on the shoulders of talented west end actors, dancers and singers. When it opened in Brooklyn, it attracted the same kind of talent. (After all, where else do you think all those fabulous performers on Broadway live?) The StageCoach staff are all working professionals in the industry from London’s west end to NYC’s Broadway and film. With guest performers from shows like Wicked and Mary Poppins, these “seniors” share their valuable real world skills to the “junior” campers with the enthusiasm that only performance artists can exude! As the largest part-time Performing Arts School in the world, they have established themselves as a place for high-quality classes from live piano accompaniment to set design.
So, here’s how their summer camp works: kids rehearse and perform a show throughout the week by taking instruction in singing, drama and dance (from hip hop to jazz even!). Each camp week is different so you can register for more than one. Kids ages 4- 16 years can attend from July 25th-30 and August 8th-13th.
At the end of the day, the goal of StageCoach isn’t about making a turned out Broadway star- it’s about making your child a star in his or her own way through self-confidence and self-expression. What more could you want in a summer camp?!
Right now, StageCoach is running a special for 1 week of camp from August 8-13 for 40% off! This is for ages 6 years – 16 years.

Early stages
For children aged 4-6 years.
Early stages work on a fun mini musical Monday – Friday 9.30 am- 12.30 pm. Show on Saturday at 10.30 am.
The children receive lessons in dance, drama and singing from our wonderful staff. We make sure the process of learning and putting on a show is as fun as possible. Each child will have their own character in the musical, and learn around 5 songs and 2-3 dances as well as having a small amount of dialogue to learn for the show on the Saturday morning.
They will also work on arts and crafts during the week. Designing masks for their character’s, posters for their show and scenery.
The cost for Early stages is $245.
