Think about traveling “up” this summer, that is, “up” to The High Line. It might not seem like a summer destination, but with the ribbon cutting yesterday of the new section of the High Line, you will. Today is the first full day that the section is open to the public. The High Line is now a full mile long, running from Gansevoort Street to West 30th Street, connecting the Meatpacking District, West Chelsea, and Hell’s Kitchen. All summer long you can touch a squirmy worm, go on a bug hunt or watch a dance performance at the mile-long park. They have some interesting activities planned that change monthly, so be sure to check their Event Calendar for up to date information.
Have a stroller or wheelchair? Don’t worry, The High Line is fully wheelchair-accessible, with a new elevator located at West 30th Street, and another located at West 23rd Street and scheduled to open by the end of June, supplementing two existing elevators at West 14th Street and West 16th Street.
Here is the lineup for the summer.

Families will experiment with sending and receiving movements to one another, exploring Trisha Brown’s particular style with three of Trisha Brown Dance Company’s own dancers. After learning movements from Brown’s work, families are invited to return at 5:00 PM to watch Roof Piece performed by Trisha Brown Dance Company on surrounding buildings.
