Brooklyn: Let’s Get Physical! List of Summer Fitness Classes

It’s pretty easy to let a fitness plan go south for the winter. Now that it’s nicer out we are inspirited to get moving in order to get more energy and shed some pounds. We recently discovered some fun classes in Brooklyn like Pilates, Zumba, stroller fitness and some boot camps to whip us into shape. Boot Camp at the Fitness Guru
Fitness Guru is offering a new round of 6am Boot Camps for the summer. Classes meet twice a week– either Monday/Thursday or Tuesday/Friday– for 8 weeks. The classes include cardiovascular work, strength training, Pilates mat work and flexibility. The cost of the 8 weeks is $400. Brooklyn Fitness also offers free Pilates mat classes in the Pier One Park, Tuesday nights at 7pm all summer long.

Captain Quinn’s Fitness Boot camp
Captain Quinn’s Brooklyn Fitness Boot Camp is a great way to get in shape through 45-minute sessions of fat blasting, strength building, endurance enhancing, improved flexibility and increased muscle tone. Sunset Pilates  on Pier 6
Join Lou Cornacchia, founder of Cobble Hill’s Body in Balance Studio, for sunset Pilates on Pier 6 for an Intermediate Pilates Mat Class. Students will learn proper technique, core muscle strength, spinal alignment and shoulder stabilization. Classes are open to individuals16 and older but Pilates experience is suggested. Students should bring a good thick mat and a Dynaband. In event of rain, class will be held the following day (Friday) at the same time. Students must complete a waiver form, which can be downloaded and filled out ahead of time, or completed at class.

Stroller Fitness
Are you looking to get moving after having a baby? Stroller Fitness is a great way to have fun and stay active while loosing that post-baby weight. Taught by Stephanie Severe, a certified personal trainer, Stroller Fitness focuses on 45 minutes of cardio, strength, core work and flexibility. All fitness levels and stroller types are welcome.
Details: Classes are held on Wednesdays at 12pm in Fort Greene Park. The new four-week session begins 6/29. Only $20 per class if you pre-pay and $25 drop-in rate. Email Stephanie Severe at stephanie.severe@gmail to register.

Workshop: Yoga in the Rotunda
Sundays, July 10 (Anunsara yoga with Elena Brower), July 17 (Iyengar yoga with Nikki Costello), and July 24 (Jivamukti yoga with Kelly Morris), 2–4 p.m.
In connection with the Vishnu exhibit, three yoga instructors will teach a series of two-hour workshops at the museum. There will also be tour of the exhibit after the workshop. Free Yoga in Prospect Park
Bend & Bloom Yoga and Lululemon Athletica Brooklyn have teamed up to bring together some of the best yoga instructors in Brooklyn by providing some free, fresh air yoga each Thursday night in Prospect Park.

Stroller Strides
Stroller Strides, a total fitness program that moms can do with their babies includes power walking and intervals of strength and body toning exercises using exercise tubing, the stroller, and the environment. Taught by certified instructors, it’s a great workout for any level of exerciser. The group meets in various places such as in Prospect Park, Vanderbilt Playground, at Grand Army Plaza, Carroll Park and at the Promenade in Brooklyn Heights. Mark Morris Dance Group
A fantastic dance studio where both kids and adults can take dance and fitness classes. For adults, you can enjoy fun classes like Afro-Carbbean “dance and movement, Ballet, belly dancing, body conditioning (on a ball), modern dance, Pilates mat, restorative movement, rhythm and modern workout and Zumba.
