School News: Co-op School is Accepting Applications Due to Expansion

Families who are looking for a pre-k and kindergarten program for this fall- we have some good news! If you are looking for a spot or you didn’t get into the Co-op School in Clinton Hill, you will be happy to hear that the school is expanding and now accepting new applicants for their pre-k and kindergarten programs.

Started in 2003, the Co-op School has expanded from a small, parent-run playgroup that one of my friends co-founded to a fully staffed organization with an executive director, a business director and 20 full-time teachers. As a cooperative learning experience, expect to get your hands dirty! Parents are involved in the development, fund raising and maintenance of the school. They also serve on various committees and participate in activities throughout the year. It is a tight-knit group of parents who seem to really like each other.

This new elementary program for the 2011-2012 year will inaugurate their first kindergarten class and the co-op is slated to add a new grade each year: first grade in 2012; second grade in 2013; third grade in 2014; fourth grade in 2015; fifth grade in 2016.

To learn more about the curriculum, cooperative model and philosophy please attend the Co-op Elementary Open House (details below).
