We are so excited to learn more about Construction Kids Brooklyn, a building school for kids right in the heart of Prospect-Lefferts Gardens. One reader, Heather, emailed us with rave reviews about her experience there stating that her 2.5-year-old had so much fun “building with blocks, rolling wooden cars down a big ramp, going into the little houses constructed by big kids, pouring sawdust into containers, and using a screw and screw driver,” that we had to learn more.

Created by Deb Winsor, whom Rutka mentioned “is great with the kids, assisting in a gentle way that made it safe and fun,” Construction Kids is designed to instill the joy of building for both kids and adults. Offering an after-school program, vacation camps (this includes sessions to learn how to build skateboards, musical instrument and vehicles!) adult programs, this drop-off school is designed to teach children the basics of construction as well as how to safely handle tools and how to put materials together. These active and hands-on classes also give kids (grades K to 4) the opportunity to learn about the history of building as well as how to read and work with blueprints, build and paint and how to work in a team.
Check out their gallery for the amazing projects that some Construction Kids Brooklyn put together!
If you are not sure about the program, you can also sign up for a sample class (about 2 hours) in order to meet with staff members and even build a small project. Drop-off open house is for children currently in K-3 and costs $35, includes all materials.
