Weekly Events: A Child Grows Meetup Group, International Babywearing Week, Free Art Class and More

This week, we are so happy to support International Babywearing Week – an program that brings awareness about babywearing as well as its benefits and tips on how to do so properly. To kick-off this celebration, our friends at Caribou Baby are hosting a slew of interesting events – including a Babywearing Walk and classes covering babywearing techniques. We will be at Caribou Baby to celebrate are are really excited to meet YOU at our Brooklyn’s Best Resources for New and Expectant Parents meetup. This super laid back, yet informative session will cover everything from how to find pediatricians, midwives, dentists, kids’ classes, how to meet other parents and even what car service to use! (We’re sorry, but it’s currently sold out).  This week you can also check out a FREE art class with Kookaburra Art and Intervention, a new art group for kids or a fun storytime with Selina Alko at Mini Max Toys and Cuts. Paint-A-Pumpkin at Moomah
All month long the creative art space, Moomah is hosting pumpkin painting party for kids. There will also be crafts like creating your own Monster-Mash Placemat, Paint-Your-Own Haunted House, Make-Your-Own Monster Hands & Feet, and much more! This event is $15 per child. New Puppet Play Group
Puppetry is quite an incredible art that kids of all ages love! Liz Joyce, performer and musician, established puppet playgroups in Sag Harbor at Goat on a Boat that she is now bringing to Brooklyn at the Clockwork Puppet Theater. This 8-week course, taught by Liz, will include music, interactive games and a puppet show with Minkie, the monkey. Babies and Books at the Central Library
A fun way to bond with your baby and meet new parents is through the Babies and Books program at the Brooklyn Public Library. This free event is targeted for babies 0 to 18 months and includes readings from children’s books, songs and rhymes. Pick up a ticket at the Children’s Reference Desk on the morning of the program. HIP play
Still Hip has daily playgroups in their fun playspace. Participants are simply asked to help set up and clean up the space, but there will always be someone in the store to help. Book Discussion About Teens
The hottest young adult authors are coming to Brooklyn for a discussion at powerHouse Arena about their recent novels. Babywearing Walk
Caribou is hosting a Babywearing Walk to support and inspire babywearing. The walk will start at 2pm in McCarren Park in the semi circle just north of the rest rooms. Families are encouraged to gather between 1-2pm and at 1:30PM. There will also be 15 minute Family Yoga session to get participants warmed up and ready for the walk . The walk will involve walking around McCarren Park, up to Driggs Ave to North 6th St and then down Bedford Avenue. It will then end Caribou Baby for some light refreshments and mingling. Babywearing for Newborns
Adriane (certified babywearing instructor and owner of Caribou Baby) will be teaching a workshop for Babywearing for Newborns. This hour-long seminar will include a discuss on how to position a newborn in a carrier as well as highlight the emotional and physical needs of a baby. There will also be a discussion of various types of carriers with an emphasis on woven wraps and ring slings. All attendees will receive a 10% discount off of a new carrier purchased that day.
