Museum of Motherhood: Celebrating and Honoring Mothers From Around the World

The Museum of Motherhood may be the only place that actually honor mother-in-laws and stepmothers- and how overdue that seems! As a first facility of its kind, the Museum Of Motherhood about bringing awareness to the multicultural family around the world including an understanding and appreciation of giving birth. It also honors stepmothers, adoptive mothers, activist mothers, mother artists, single mothers, divorced mothers, caregivers and family members!

The museum’s main exhibit called the ‘Mother The Job‘ aims to highlight how motherhood is the most important job in the world (yes!), which is illuminated through a series of films, pictures, sculptures, artifacts, and writings. This innovative museum also features a fantastic library and resource center, ongoing exhibits, book readings, baby and mommy groups, lectures, art gatherings, yoga classes and workshops led by bloggers (whew!). Families can also enjoy the museums play space, which includes toys, books and bikes and they can also book birthday parties at the Museum or rent it out for events or as a rehearsal space.

In addition to exhibits, the museum will also have Realityworks Infant Simulators and pregnancy vests, a borrowing library and a small boutique so that all visitors can connect to the role as a mother.

If you can’t make it to NYC, the museum also has an online exhibition featuring photography, art, book reviews, a weekly TV show discussing feminist perspectives and mom culture, and online courses such as the Foundations of Mothering Studies, Mothers at the Margins, Mothers in Popular Culture and much more!
