Whether you have an adorable dog or an adorable child who is wild about dogs- head to this poor sister of the Westminster Dog Show- The Brooklyn Mutt Show. This dog show is done Brooklyn-style: contests include the softest ears, most animated tail or the sloppiest smooch. Celebrity judges, (local authors, comedians) will weigh in on each contestant and prizes for the pups include Doggie Bags of goodies from Brooklyn Bark, a photo shoot by Brooklyn Beasts Photography and gift certificates from One Love Vet, Les Pets en Voyage and Your Spoiled Pets.
Did you know that dogs can receive CPR? Apparently! Pet first aid / CPR classes will be held both days, taught by a representative of Brooklyn Bark Dog Walking and Pet Sitting Services and a veterinarian from Blue Pearl Emergency Veterinary Clinic. Student spaces for the Pet CPR/First Aid course may be secured online here. Agility and obedience training will be available from Sarah Westcott CPDT-KSA. There will also be vendor displays showcasing the latest and best products for dogs from glow leashes to human-grade dog dinners to safe cleaning products for your pup’s environment.
Don’t forget to memorialize the day with a pooch photo with James Morrissey, the very same photographer who does portrait photography in the Westminster Green Room. James waves his sitting fee in return for a $25 donation. View his work at wildcoyotestudio.com.
The Brooklyn Mutt Show. will be a fundraiser for animal rehab in New York City with the monies raised to be divided between Sean Casey Animal Rescue and the Wild Bird Fund. Sean Casey will have an adoption van on site with pups and kitties looking for homes. The Wild Bird Fund will be exhibiting some of the magnificent fowl they have rescued but cannot be released, including a kestrel rescued after flying into a plate glass window.
Co-produced by the Brooklyn Lyceum and Brooklyn Bark, the Mutt Show is open to all dogs of any type, breed or lineage.
