Pom Pom Love at The Children’s Museum of the Arts with Kawai

Any art show that includes both the words “pom pom” and “love” in the show title will entice me anytime.  That “Love from Mt. Pom Pom” is an art installation done by renowned Japanese artist Misaki Kawai is the clincher.  This young artist has made has made a splash with her multi-media whimsical work all over the world including her wildly imaginative space stations and airplanes for Deitch Projects in 2004.  In her first solo presentation in the U.S. since 2007, Kawai’s exhibition takes place during her 3-Month Museum Residency at The Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA).

Kawai’s “Love from Mt. Pom Pom”  has transformed CMA’s 2,000 square-foot gallery into an imaginary world of giant fuzzy animals and other colorful characters run wild. The installation makes great use of CMA’s new facility, which opened at 103 Charlton St. in October 2011. Kawai will welcome young artists enrolled in CMA classes to take studio tours, participate in master classes, and observe her at work.

In addition to the exhibition itself, CMA will present Love from Mt. Pom Pom themed arts workshops, interactive programs and special events throughout the duration of the exhibition.
