Southpaw Closed- NY Kids Club Opening in Park Slope

Don’t feel sorry for the former owner of the historic music venue Southpaw- he’s happy to get out of Park Slope. “I’m kind of over Park Slope — it’s not a destination for nightlife anymore,” said Palms, who also owns Public Assembly NYC in Williamsburg. “It’s time to go.” And, with that, the djs and bands packed up and construction has already begun to replace the rocking space with a kids space.

New York Kids Club, now in its tenth season, will move into the location in September 2012. It will be their largest location to date.  Founder Pam Wolf says, “We have wanted to be in Park Slope for a long time.  The hipsters, while still as hip as ever, now have children – children that we look forward to educating!”

What will it be and offer?
New York Kids Club will look a lot like its Brooklyn Heights location (which is featured in all the photos here) and will offer a range of fitness, gymnastics, art, music, dance, drama and cooking for children ages 2 months to 12 years. They will also offer camps, classes and birthday parties.

A Preschool Alternative
The 2’s Club, 3’s Club and 4’s Club provide a preschool alternative, incorporating art, gym, and music, with a focus on literacy and sensory and social development. Traditional lessons are taught through a progressive approach, child- and teacher-directed activities, and the belief that children learn best through play. Preschool alternative programs meet 2, 3 or 5 days per week.
