New Rooftop Farm Offers CSA Shares

The Brooklyn Navy Yard is getting a new tenant- but this one won’t be inside the building, but up on the roof.  Brooklyn Grange, a commercial organic farm located on New York City rooftops, will be the Yard’s newest tenant.  Brooklyn Grange just signed a lease for a a 45,000 square foot rooftop farm that will be installed this spring, more than doubling the size of their total growing area. With over two acres of urban growing space between Brooklyn and Long Island City, they will have a lot of produce to make a more bountiful CSA.

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection’s Green Infrastructure Grant Program paid for the bulk of the cost of their new farm.

They are now registering for their 2012 CSA program.

Here is what you you get:

24 weeks of produce. It begins in mid-May and continues through October.

A weekly bag of fresh seasonal produce from one or both of their two rooftop farms. From one week to the next you’ll get a variety of vegetables including greens, herbs, carrots, radishes, scallions, peppers, and of their “world-famous” rooftop tomatoes.

The cost of a subscription is $540, which breaks down to $22.50 per week.
