This week a unique theater form comes to Brooklyn, and with it, a respected Artistic Director comes home. Sandra Robbins, Founder and Artistic Director of the Shadow Box Theatre (SBT) is returning to her childhood roots of Brooklyn to bring her latest production, “Once Upon a Story”, to Brooklyn children. For 40 years she has bringing shadow theater to NYC including the Brooklyn Music School Playhouse (beginning in 2007), and the Brooklyn YWCA (1989-2006). Overall, she has created productions for over two million children since the inception of SBT.
This week, spring break and though the beginning of May, you can see the combination of live theater, music and puppetry in a medley of three American Tall tales and legends. The show includes Johnny Appleseed, Big Annie, and the Native American tale, “The Growing Rock”, plus a spirited American Songfest. The performance is recommended for ages PreK- 3rd grade.
