Do you have a kid who’s mot0r vehicle obsessed? Would your kid flip out to climb inside an ambulance or get behind the wheel of a tow truck? Building on the popularity of last year’s event, Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn 2012 will have more than 20 vehicles for your kids to touch and explore. This year the event organizers pr0mise more trucks, longer hours, shorter lines, and even more food so your kids can get a gander at all the trucks they will have on hand.
Not only will your family get to see trucks up close but they get to talk to the operators and that means: firefighters, bus drivers, police officers and trolley operators.
Here who is going to show up with their newly shined and open vehicles:
- FDNY fire engine
- NYPD police car
- DSNY garbage truck
- Ambulance
- Concrete mixer
- Tow truck
- Bucket trucks/cherry pickers
- School bus
- Sean Casey Animal Adoption Van
- Green-Wood Cemetery Trolley
And, not to be outdone by their hardworking brothers and sisters, several of Brooklyn’s famed gourmet food trucks will also be selling savory treats on-site. Families can purchase burgers and fries from Frites & Meats, authentic Greek street food from Souvlaki GR, great Mexican food from Mr. Jalapeno, and delicious sweets from The Treats Truck. And of course, no truck event would be complete without Mr. Softee and his frozen treats.
Touch-A-Truck Brooklyn is a fundraiser for PS 295, The Studio School for Arts & Culture, and quite a successful one at that. For their first one last year, they had nearly 5,000 attendees and raised a significant amount of money for the school, which ultimately helped pay for a part-time teacher to alleviate larger 4th and 5th grade classes.
