New Visitor Center to Open and Flora Garden This Week

Last week, members of the Brooklyn Botanic Garden got a sneak peek of the Garden‘s new environmentally sustainable Visitor Center, but this week the whole public gets to see the new construction. Wednesday, May 16th you can check out the “green” Visitor Center that includes new exhibits, plantings, an expanded garden shop and a green roof.

One of the most interesting aspects of the design is the roof’s 10,000 square feet of growing plants which will help reduce air pollution and slow rainwater runoff.

Save the date for Amble, a free event on June 2 celebrating the new Visitor Center.

The Garden has also been expanding its Native Flora Garden too and in the next month they are finishing up a boardwalk that will cross over a pond, bog, savannah and woodland.  The work is to be completed in June, and it looks like it will become a lovely place to stroll.  To learn more about the expanded Native Flora Garden, please click here.
