Flash Mob at PS 10 Surprises Everyone

Imagine heading out to recess only to be flashed….by a mob of over 100 parents, teachers, and school administrators in a surprise flash mob in your school yard. That’s exactly what happened to 850 students of PS 10 in Park Slope last week.

After weeks of secret rehearsals (organized by PS 10 parent and choreographer, Kristi Spessard, and parent Kathleen Hackett), the group broke into a playground-themed modern ballet set to the aria from Carmen (in tribute to the opera classes the students have been taking) and then performed a faster routine set to “Boom Boom Pow” by the Black Eyed Peas.  PS 10 Principal Laura Scott and Assistant Principal Denise Watson joined in the fun, decked out in red feather boas and strutting down an imaginary runway while parents and teachers lined up on either side playing air guitars. The gathering ended in a free for-all dance with the students, some children forming an impromptu conga line.
