The Brooklyn Bridge Pop-Up Pool at Pier 2 will finally open tomorrow! According to Patch, the pool will “have its ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, July 6 at 9:45 a.m.” I assume that after that (at 10 11 am), the pool will be open to swimmers. Grab your suits and towels: but be prepared to wait in line for the privilege of being one of the first to dip into this small pool.
Reader Isabelle Dervaux wrote today that she passed the pool and it looked lovely. She snapped the photo of it above. (Thanks Isabelle!)
I’m hoping that this pool won’t be plagued by the problems that the McCarren Park Pool has had its opening week.
Even though it’s being called a “pop-up”, the Brooklyn Bridge pool will actually be around for 5 years. The free access pool is 30’ x 50’ and 3.5 feet deep and only 60 people are allowed in at one time, which means they will have timed swimming sessions.
There will be a sand beach next to the pool with 25 lounge chairs and 10 picnic tables with umbrellas and a food concessionaire. Swimmers can also shower before and after their swim.
The pool will be open from 10 am- 6 pm and moderately priced learn-to-swim lessons will be available in the mornings from 8 am – 10 am
The pool will be accessible by all existing transportation options http://www.brooklynbridgepark.org/visit/directions
