Food’s up
One of the best changes to Brooklyn Bridge Park last year was the addition of great food vendors. What is still missing: shade! A lot of the vendors will be opening this weekend so it’s a perfect time to head to the park, or hop on the ferry or just chill and score a great lunch. I will be heading to my favorites Bark Hot Dogs and Ditch Plains and summer wouldn’t be complete without an ice cream from Uncle Louie G or Blue Marble. The full list of park vendors and their operating hours is here.

Janelle Iglesias: miniature GIANTS on Governors Island
Now here’s yet another reason to LOVE Governor’s Island! Artist Janelle Iglesias will lead a workshop for children and families to create abstract geometric sculptures inspired by Mark di Suvero’s exhibition at Governors Island. Instead of steel, this workshop will use simple recycled household materials, such as tubes, plastic caps, string, wire, paper, and cardboard to create whimsical sculptures with simple moveable parts. Participants will investigate scale by considering di Suvero’s sculptures in relation to the size of their own bodies. By first creating tiny versions of themselves as measuring tools, participants will then build miniature gigantic sculptures.
