“Rabble Rouser” Amy Sohn to Appear

I’ve always wondered what happens when an author who digs up salacious dirt on her neighbors goes outside and faces the people who feel that their lives have been unearthed by the telling.  Authors Amy Sohn and Ashley Prentice Norton have been vilified for their tell-alls, but do they care? Local Brooklynite Amy Sohn told NPR this week,  “I have been wearing sunglasses, somewhat intentionally.”

Amy Sohn’s newest novel, Motherland, came out 2 weeks ago and is the follow-up to Prospect Park West, which was published in 2009. Motherland, follows five parents as they navigate the perils of modern parenthood, marriage and professional success.  Most of the moms I knew in Brooklyn read her first Park Slope-centric book, PPW and they all had opinions about it. It was fun to examine the book’s stereotypes and match them up against our reality.  I suspect the same will be true of Motherland.

Amy is going to discuss and read from her new book, and I’m sure her appearance will be nothing short of interesting. Amy can always stir up the room.

Community Bookstore and Congregation Beth Elohim are introducing their new event series, Brooklyn By the Book, with the appearance by Amy in conversation with Lisa Miller.
