St. Patrick’s Day is Sunday! This is a special day for my family. Not because we are Irish, but because it is my son’s 2nd birthday! Oh, how I fear the day he goes to college and celebrates this holiday AND his birthday with other teenagers! My plan is to take him away for a vacation to ‘celebrate’ his big day (but really to keep him out of trouble) every year! I’ve got a few years before I have to start worrying…so instead let’s talk about all the fun things you can do this weekend to celebrate!

There is the 251st Annual New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16th from 11am-5pm-ish. It starts on 44th Street, marches up 5th Ave, and ends on 79th St. Good viewing spots are toward the north end of the parade route, away from the bigger crowds below 59th Street.

And on Sunday March 17th is the 38th ANNUAL BROOKLYN ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE at 1pm. It starts and ends at 15th Street and Prospect Park West, winding through Park Slope. There is a Noon Irish Korean War Veterans Dedication and a “Re-Dedication Ceremony” to the Heroes & Victims of 9/11 – WTC at 12:45pm right before the parade. Find the parade route here.

And if you don’t want to brave the crowds, here are some inspirations for indoor crafts for the holiday:

1. Homemade Shamrock Stamp

2. Mini Leprechaun Hat

3. Wee Shamrock Men

4. Rainbow Art

And if you are really celebrating the holiday (i.e. getting a sitter) check out MurphGuide’s list of music, pub crawls, and events happening around the city!
